Posted on Thursday, July 17, 2008

Forrest Lunn's flesl.net is an ESL website designed to provide intermediate students with study materials which they can use to learn English on their own. Two series of paired reading texts form the backbone of the site and link to supplementary resources, which further expand users' understanding of specific grammar and vocabulary points.

• 20 pairs of intermediate-level ESL stories written in plain English and focusing on topics of general interest

• Each story ranging in length from 500 to 1000 words and followed by a vocabulary quiz and multiple-choice reading comprehension questions

• Alternative beginners' versions, followed by true-false questions, and annotated versions, with links to explanations of difficult grammatical structures, vocabulary words, and idiomatic expressions

• Answer keys provided for all quizzes and questions

• Extra grammar and vocabulary materials, including a glossary of grammatical terms (PDF), an analytical grammar text for advanced ESL students (PDF), error detection worksheets, exercises on specific grammar points, and vocabulary lists

• Guide to using paired reading texts for skill-integrating activities and advice on teaching ESL reading, grammar, and vocabulary
