A project of the Department of Applied Linguistics and ESL at Georgia State University, the Heinle and Heinle Grammar Activity Inventory provides ESL/EFL teachers and course developers with an overview of the types of English grammar exercises currently in use.


  • Compiled from 16 Heinle and Heinle English grammar textbooks
  • Discusses 12 main types of grammar activities: multiple choice, matching, word ordering, changing word forms, work with illustrations, classification, fill-in-the-blank, sentence/clause/phrase manipulation, sentence completion, sentence creation, identification and analysis, language in context
  • Provides defining parameters and example activities for each type, as well as cross-references to related types
