Traditions for Today: An ESL Music Adventure by Chuck Phillips of the University of Arizona provides free, downloadable MP3 songs for ESL students to use in learning English and American culture/history. Teachers can adapt these songs and use them for the ESL classroom.


  • 6 traditional/folk songs (Follow the Drinking Gourd, Amazing Grace, When Johnny Comes Marching Home, Water is Wide, Shenandoah, Man of Constant Sorrow) and 2 songs written by the author of the site (Riding West of Tucson, Sea Meets the Sky)
  • Cultural information and lyrics for all songs
