Michael Buckhoff's ESL Web Site for Students and Teachers

Posted on Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Maintained by Michael John Buckhoff, this collection of ESL materials will be useful to students and teachers of the English language alike.

Resources for ESL students are varied, with a special focus on writing and the Test of Written English (TWE). You will find, among other things, advice on TOEFL and TWE from international students, sample essays written by students from beginner to advanced level, supplementary exercises that develop essential writing skills such as spelling, correcting run-on sentences, making sentences concise and recognizing common errors. A number of self-study quizzes are provided so that you can test yourself on time management, learning styles, self-motivation, etc. Besides the grammar section which offers, at the time of writing, 855 practice questions, the picture vocabulary section is another noteworthy feature of the site with plenty of exercises designed to teach vocabulary through pictures.

For university students specializing in the English language, there are exercises on expository writing and materials to study linguistics, including morphology, phonetics, phonology, pragmatics, semantics, sociolinguistics and syntax.

Finally, the teacher's resource center provides sample forms, syllabi, research papers as well as useful teaching tips.
