The Learning Edge

The Learning Edge is an online learning tool prepared for adult literacy students by the Wellington County Learning Centre in Arthur, Ontario (Canada). Formatted like a newspaper, it allows learners to click on the 'headlines' to select 'news stories' which they can read and listen to at the same time.

Features:

• 4 general interest issues discussing topics relevant to everyday life in Canada and 6 special issues focusing on business English and workplace skills
• Each 'news story' is an animated reading text accompanied by interactive learning activities, which include quizzes, games, and crossword puzzles
• Students have full control over animations, which can be paused and re-played as many times as needed
• Special 'columns' provide useful extra materials such as writing exercises, trivia quizzes, and vocabulary tests
